Spring Fling: 7 Fun Ways to Enjoy the Season in Monroe County

Spring has arrived in Monroe County, and with it comes the opportunity to enjoy all the fun activities that the season has to offer. Whether you’re a longtime resident or new to the area, there’s plenty to see and do right in your own neighborhood. Here are seven fun spring activities to try in the area:

  1. Take a scenic drive: Monroe County is home to some of the most beautiful drives in the area. Hop in your car and take a leisurely tour through the rolling hills and lush farmland or make your way out towards Valmeyer to check out the breathtaking views along Bluff Road!
  2. Go hiking or biking: There are many scenic trails throughout the county that are perfect for hiking, biking, and walking. Take a relaxing stroll through one of the many parks or nature preserves, or tackle a more challenging hike in one of the county’s many state parks! Salt Lick Trail is host to a few different tracks that are sure to test one’s ability, but has such a rewarding view of the bottoms sure to make the trip well worthwhile!
  3. Attend a local festival: Springtime in Monroe County means a variety of local festivals and events. Check out the Monroe County Fair, held every year in late July, or attend one of the many other events throughout the season, such as the Strawberry Festival in Waterloo or Valmeyer Midsummer Picnic!
  4. Have a picnic: Pack a lunch and head to one of the county’s many parks or outdoor spaces for a relaxing picnic with friends or family. Enjoy the sunshine and fresh air while taking in the beautiful scenery. Lakeview, Metter, and Konarcik all are local parks in the area in that are great places to sit and enjoy a beautiful spring day!
  5. Try a new outdoor workout routine: Shake up your exercise routine by trying a new outdoor workout, such as yoga in the park or a boot camp-style class on the lawn.
  6. Host a neighborhood spring cleaning party: Spring is the perfect time to declutter and get your home in order. Why not make it a community event? Host a neighborhood spring cleaning party and help each other tackle those spring cleaning tasks!
  7. Attend local spring festivals or events: Monroe County has several spring festivals and events that are worth checking out. Attend the Columbia Spring Fest or Waterloo’s Garden Walk for a fun day out with the family!
